[At first, Hinata seems his normal, chipper self, but even he's not stupid enough to not see that Kageyama isn't feeling well. He walks up to him hesitantly, looking a little worried.]
No, I'm not. [He's more than just a little worried, but his usual constipated expression doesn't give that much away. There's a wave of his hand as he shoos Hinata toward the bathroom.] Just go to the bathroom and hurry up, okay?
[Hinata hesitates again, but hurries off to the bathroom. It's been kind of an emergency for the past couple minutes but he didn't want to run in alone. Luckily for Kageyama it doesn't take him very long, so he runs out with significantly more energy than before. Kinda like a dog who just came in from taking a dump outside.]
[He's in and out quickly enough that Kageyama isn't left waiting. Hinata seems chipper enough and Kageyama feels pretty bad that he's going to ruin that happy mood. It's stupid of him and selfish to even do this but he's an impulsive sort of creature. Even though he knows that Hinata has all eight fingers and two thumbs still intact he wants to count them.
Without a word he snatches Hinata's semi-damp hands with his own, fingers curling out of the top of his grasp. For a moment he can't help but take notice of just how much smaller the decoy's hands are compared to his but that's not what his focus is on. Yanking them closer toward his face he counts one to ten quietly - they're all there as they should be.]
[Hinata is startled, squeaking as Kageyama takes his hand. As always, he's worried for a second that he did something wrong and that Kageyama is going to punish him or something. When Kageyama doesn't, however, Hinata relaxes and watches him nervously. Kageyama's hands are big against his own, and even kind of rough. But overall, they're really warm. He can't help but love these hands.]
E-excuse me? [He's confused. Kageyama is really acting strange today! Maybe he has a tummy ache after all.]
[Ah. Right. Of course. It's clearly weird that he'd just grab Hinata's hands out of nowhere, especially when Hinata isn't privy to any of his thoughts. He wouldn't know how he can't stop thinking of how much pain Iwaizumi was in earlier. He can't possibly know the horror he felt when he saw those fingers inside his locker.]
I need you to promise me something.
[He doesn't let go, even though he knows it's weird; he needs to get his point across.]
Take care of your hands. No matter what, take care of them.
[It's a little weird, yeah. But Hinata isn't complaining or trying to pull away. Rather, he looks up towards the taller boy, locking eyes. At any other time, Hinata might make fun of him or laugh this off, but he can tell this is serious. Something must have happened. He swallows slowly and returns the grip that Kageyama is giving him, intertwining their fingers without thinking about it.]
I don't really get it, but... Yeah, I promise.
[He eyes Kageyama's hands gripping his own, strong and important. His setter's hands.]
[He doesn't want to get into it. If Hinata really grilled him about it he might budge, might tell him what happened...but it's unnecessary horror he doesn't need to dump on the smaller boy. It's not something he needs to get into.]
Yeah.
[A nod, serious and somber, and then it's time to unlink hands and give them back to Hinata.]
[Hinata lets his hands fall to his sides, but he's still worried. Kageyama almost never smiles, but he's usually not this somber. He's not ready to let it go quite yet. He's nervous as he twiddles his thumbs and looks towards him once more.]
[That doesn't really satisfy him. Something must have happened to Kageyama, but Hinata doesn't know what it is. ...But maybe it doesn't really matter. Anxiously, he grabs onto his sleeve, eyes bright.]
You wanna toss? [He can't think of anything that might make Kageyama feel better right now. Aside from maybe a hug. But is Kageyama even a hug person? It's a little weird to hug someone when you don't know what you're hugging them about. Plus it's Kageyama.]
[The hand on his sleeve has him looking down at it. Hinata's fine. They're going to be fine (Or so he hopes.) but for once he's not in the mood for volleyball. He doesn't have the stomach for it right now after all that's happened.]
[Then he definitely has even more to be worried about than he thought. Hinata's grip on Kageyama's sleeve tightens and he shivers, lips pursed and expression sad. He doesn't want a Kageyama like this, so what can he do to help him? He wouldn't be a very good friend if he just left him like this! ...But what is there to do now?
He shakes his head, trying to get over the fact that Kageyama doesn't want to play volleyball. He isn't in the mood. There has to be something else.]
Let's take a walk, okay? We can go to the vending machine...
[He knows he's worrying Hinata but there's not much he can do about it. He's never been good at lying and so omitting the truth is the only way to go about all of this. There's a nod at the smaller boy's suggestion. Even if he doesn't eat anything at least he can get something to drink. Milk doesn't seem like a bad idea right now.]
[Hinata pulls him int he direction of the cafetria, then lets go of Kageyama's sleeve. It's a little embarrassing to have to pull him through the school, after all.]
They'll probably have milk! [God, he just wants to see Kageyama be his normal apathetic, cranky self. He doesn't like seeing him sad like this. He hates it. He'll do anything to make it stop.]
[More like he knows they will, unless they're somehow mysteriously out. Which they better not be. Today's already been shitty enough as it is. Falling in step just slightly behind Hinata he lets him lead the way, shoving his hands into his pockets.]
[Hinata's not stupid though. Usually when people tell him to drink milk, it's because he's so small. His gaze is suspicious, feeling as though he's been insulted somehow, but not necessarily wanting to start a fight when Kageyama is feeling down already.]
[Hinata eyes him with another dubious look, then slumps his shoulders and keeps his eyes on the hall in front of him so he doesn't stupidly crash into something. Of course, he narrowly avoids an open door, stumbling around it and nearly bumping into Kageyama. This is why you keep your eyes on the road, Hinata!]
Geh-- [He collects himself a second later.] Is that why you're so good at volleyball?
[You're only in the main lineup because his tosses keep you there!!! Although that's not entirely true now. Hinata has improved, Kageyama will admit that much.]
[Hinata purses his lips and mumbles, pouting a little bit as he shuffles his feet forward. They round the corner, where they find the vending machines where they've always stood. As always, the snacks that Hinata wants are out of stock almost as soon as he gets there, but there's always various juices and milks. (Though never the exact flavor he wants, so frustrating!)]
I waaant... [He pauses thoughtfully, then presses the button down, producing a strawberry milk box.] This! I haven't had this kind in a while!
[The boy steps back, giving Kageyama room to move in and choose as well.]

[Ah- dodging this spazzlord. At least you're too small to knock him over harharhar.]
I'm good at volleyball because I use my brain and practice a lot. Maybe if you used your head more you'd be better.

[He's extraordinary, Kageyama. Get on his level.]
Just cause you're a little better than me doesn't mean you get to act all cool and senpai-ish about it. Jerkiyama.
